SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network) is a technology that uses software to manage and optimise connectivity between locations. It can combine multiple transport links — fibre, broadband, and LTE — and steer traffic dynamically based on real-time conditions and application needs.
By decoupling network control from the underlying hardware, SD-WAN makes multi-site networks more flexible, resilient, and often more cost-effective than traditional MPLS-only designs.
Why it matters
